My newborn sessions can be booked from your first scan date, using your due date as a rough appointment date. I prefer to shoot babies at approximately 2 weeks old (I can go to 4 weeks if needed). This is to ensure feeding is well established and the very early cluster feeding is (hopefully) avoided and yet young enough that baby is still very sleepy and able to easily curl back into the positions they held in the womb. 

On the day of the session please give baby some decent awake time before the session. This can be with a bath, some tummy time or just rolling about in a nappy. This is so baby arrives to the studio ready for a feed and a decent sleep. Sleep = better posing and thus better images. Please bring plenty of milk in boob or bottle form, and your usual changing bag.

I tend to wrap/swaddle the babies in a soft stretchy jersey fabric for the duration of the session (except a few near the end). This keeps baby happy and content throughout the photoshoot. I have a variety of colours to choose from, as well as various props, buckets, bonnets, headbands etc, and I usually aim to do around 5 different set ups throughout your session (these can also include a parent/sibling shot). I’m baby led in my approach, their comfort and happiness are my top priority as I work.

The session itself can last around 3-4 hours. This is to ensure baby is quite happy at every stage of the process. I have a little comfy parents area in the studio where you can sit back and relax and watch on, with a cup of tea and a biscuit while I create these images of your little bundle of joy. I do suggest if you are bringing young children along for a sibling shot, that they come for the beginning and then are taken off after their starring role, as the session can be long, warm and boring for little ones.
